I Wont Grow Up

Summer is one of my favorite season. It means life, awakening, blue skies, green trees and plenty of sunshine. As a child it meant going to my grandmother's house, going swimming, frog catching, bike riding, long days and short nights.

I'd look forward to sitting under the trees of our backyard sanctuary, listening to the birds and basking in the sunlight. Maybe I'll bring out my laptop and write, inspired by the beauty. All the colors come out of their winter hibernation.

And as the colors come out of their hibernation, my skin sheds its winter white, too. My freckles darken and my cheeks glow rosy red. All right, all right, for those of you who know me, you know that I am pasty white all year round. Dang it.

But I find myself stopping at least 10 times a day to enjoy the bright newness popping up around us, whether it's feeling the air get cool as I run through a shaded green-treed trail to our creek or watching the sunset create magical sky-paintings.

When I was young, I was fortunate enough to be surrounded by happy music, good books and magic. I've chosen to root myself in these ideals. It may sound silly, but I'd rather emulate a Disney princess than just about anything. Belle, from Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," was always a favorite role model. She wasn't afraid to be different and extraordinary. And like her, I'd rather find treasures in a good book than channel surf through filth, rubbish, slime, muck and putrescence. I don't ever want to be content sitting in a thoughtless stupor and watching other people live my dreams.

I wasn't quite a girly girl. I loved to play in the mud and wrestle with my brother. I climbed trees and caught crawdads in the river. Once, we caught a pail of frogs and left them in the basement window well and they all escaped, or so my mom said.

My inner child was a pioneer, off to explore my world and to conquer. I was a cowgirl riding my stick horse, leading a red wagon train of kids and blankets and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and toy pistols and other Western paraphernalia around the neighborhood block.

So even though we are older, the inner child within each of us longs to be heard, to be embraced and followed. Our inner child is creative, innocent and holds the keys to our true desires, though over time our inner child is often told to sit, be still and listen. The keys that our inner child holds are then stuffed deep down into the pocket and forgotten.

One of my favorite stories growing up (and still is) was "Peter Pan."

In a behind-the-scenes clip on the "Finding Neverland" DVD, actor Dustin Hoffman said: "In Peter Pan, there is a place called Neverland, and if you ask people what the metaphor is, you will get different answers. One person might say it is a journey to imagination, to creativity, others may say, it means you never die. Neverland is the place that exists for all of us in the 'wish' part of our brains."

We should never forget our "inner child." We must always remember what it was like to not have a care in the world.

One of my all time favorite songs is called "Fireflies" by Faith Hill. She sings of times where she would catch frogs, call them princes and make herself a queen. She tells of how she'd sleep in castles and fall in love because she was taught to dream.

My favorite part of the whole song means a lot to me because it reminds me of myself. It says: "I found mayonnaise bottles and poked holes on top to capture Tinkerbell. They were just fireflies to the untrained eye, but I could always tell. I believe in fairytales and dreamers' dreams like bed sheet sails. And I believe in Peter Pan and miracles, and anything I can to get by. And fireflies."

So in the spirit of keeping "Neverland" alive, I plan on making this summer the greatest adventure of them all.

Western

It started because my friend Tanya and I were in a movie together and knew it wouldnt ever see the light of day (thank goodness) and for that reason, we decided to write our own movie and we decided to go with a classic western.

As of right now, we are in the middle of planning the outline to our movie and will hopefully be finished with the script in the next couple weeks. We have come up with what we think will be a fun and entertaining feature length film and hope to start filiming it this summer and have it ready for the festivals this time next year.

Who doesnt love a story with adventure, guns, horses and the like? :)

Westerns havent really been the dominant genre competing in the box office lately, especially when competing against creatures like wizards and vampires, but with recent movies like 3 10 to Yuma and the Coen brothers current film, True Grit, westerens are getting more and more popular again.

Wish us luck!

My Dream Job

Samantha Brown has my DREAM JOB! For those of you who dont watch the Travel channel, Samantha Brown has her very own show where she gets paid to travel to the most beautiful places in the world. I have always wanted to travel. What a shame it would be to live your entire life on this beautiful planet, and not get to see it? I wish I had money, just so I can see what this world has to offer.

I never liked sitting in history class, but I LOVE to hear stories about people and actually BE in the place people has been and feel their presence.

Some of the places I HAVE to go before I die are:

Italy
Something about Italy, specifically Portofino, Italy calls to me. My heart knows I would love it there and probably never want to go back. I just better make sure Gavin goes with me when I finally go there.

France

City of LOVE.

England

HISTORY! And its beautiufl... and their accents are awesome. And JK Rowling wrote Harry Potter there.... Yes!

Cancun

This is full of history and would be awesome to see. Oh, wait! I AM GOING!!!! See you in JUNE!

Atlantis Resort, Bahama's
This resort looks like an adventure. Located in the Bahama's, it is an amazing resort that has a waterslide that goes UNDERWATER... IN THE OCEAN... Wow. CRAZY COOL! (and kinda scary...)

Scotland

Scotland is such a magical place. And what history! My family has always talked about going to Scotland, since my grandma is from there. I love the accents and the stories.

New Zealand
This is the location of Middle Earth, need I say more? :)

Greece

What a beautiful place. It looks so peaceful and amazing just sitting there on the mountain side. Ah. Sigh... Beautiful.

This is my friend, KC. She got to hold a baby tiger. I had the chance to do that in Cabo San Lucas, but I thought it cost too much. Now I regret it SOOOOO BAD! I have always wanted to do that, and I had the chance but I let a measly $25 hold me back! The dress I ended up getting for my souvenir has sat in my closet for almost a year and I havent worn it once! NUTS! If I am ever given this opportunity again, I am taking it!

Isn't he cute? (KC is too. :)

These are just a few places I want to go. THERE ARE SOOOO MANY PLACES TO SEE! I encourage everyone to travel and see all they can see and do all they can do! Life is too short to miss all this beauty around us!

Newest Addition to Our Little Family

This should have been posted awhile ago, and I posted it on facebook, but I totally forgot to post it on here. Well we have a new member to our little family. Sadly, he is too big to live with us in our one room, basement apartment, but he is out running with his new friends and enjoying the outdoors. This is Locksley.......

When Gavin and I first started dating, he took me to a horse show. While I was looking around at all the horses, there was this girl riding bareback behind the arena. She had four of the most beautiful horses closed in around her and I fell in love (with the horses) They were red dun horses and had the shinyiest/most beautiful coat I have ever seen and I whispered to Gavin that I wanted a horse like that someday. A couple months ago, the Gardner family went to a horse show in Iowa and came back with this guy in their trailer. I couldnt believe it! A horse of my own!? A RED DUN nonetheless? Wow. I was (and still am) SO thankful. Locksley is such a funny horse. He isnt broke yet, but he is one of the most friendly animals I have ever met. He likes to get close to you and doesnt understand the meaning of a 'bubble'. He will come right up to meet you and stands super close to you. It is really cute.

One night at the farm, we were filming some scenes for the project I am in and all the horses, including Locksley, were curious and wouldnt leave. I was worried when we took him up to the farm, he would pick up the other horses bad habits and run away from us, but just the opposite happened, he was sort of their leader and they ALL came up to us and wouldnt leave. We were all amused. (Gavin said it might be because in the winter they are hungry, but I choose to believe that Locksley has a good influence on them. :) I cant wait to ride him this smmer.

New Years Resolutions

Lauren's Goals. . . In no particular order. :)

1. Show Gavin I LOVE him!
I want to make sure Gavin knows how much he means to me everyday and always make him feel appreciated and loved.

2. STOP drinking soda. Drink LOTS of aqua!
I have noticed, I dont feel as good, physically, after drinking soda. I love soda, but I want to feel better so I am trying to stop drinking caffiene and then stop drinking carbinated drinks completely.

3. Finish writing at least one script/novel. Or SEVERAL.
I love to write and I have so many stories rolling around in my head. The problem is just finding time to get it down and the modivation to stick it all the way through. Right now I probably have 8 ideas that are half written out, but not one is complete.

4. Write at least once a week.
This goes along with #3 and how I am to accomplish that.

5. Go to the temple with my hubby at LEAST once a month, if not more.
We used to be so good at going once a WEEK! Then we got busier and busier so if we could even go once a MONTH, it will be better than not going at all.

6. Cook more dinners and try new things.
I am not a great cook. There are maybe 7 meals I know how to make that I rotate through every time I make dinner. I want to learn how to make new and yummy dishes for dinner. Lately we eat out alot because we both work and cooking is the last thing we want to do when we get home. But I LOVED growing up and having my mom cook a nice meal for us (almost) everynight. I want to be able to do that for my family and be as good of a cook as her (someday).

7. Work out 2-3 times a week. ZUMBA!
Working all day at a desk makes you feel sloppy after some time. Although I LOVE my job, I dont have much physical activness during the day. So I hope to feel better by taking a Zumba class. (Someday I want to be Zumba certified so I can teach my own class someday.)

8. Say prayers with Gavin every night.
So far, we gave been AWESOME at this, even before we were married. Lets keep it up!

9. Read scriptures with Gavin and on my own.
This one we havent done a good job at doing. We both keep saying we are going to do better at this, but neither of us has really stepped up and taken action.

10. Do laundry at least once a week; more if needed.
I hate not having any clean clothes! I need to organize it so I dont have a huge heaping pile of laundry to do before I have a decent outfit.

11. Keep to a budget and shop smart.
I can be in impulse buyer...or I buy something when I am bored. I need to buckle down and save money for future wants and needs.

12. Stay organized.
I am kind of a clean freak. But only some of the time. If I had been cleaning alot and there is a mess, I go on strike and let it sit there until I cave or Gavin takes care of it. It is hard to stay clean and organized in such a little apartment.

13. Start filming SOMETHING!
As of right now I am involved in 2 different film projects and neither have really been close to getting done. I have helped all I can with one and am waiting on some things to be finished before we can continue and the other is still up in the air as far as scheduling goes. I would like to buy a canon t2i camera so I can start filming my own stuff and not have to wait for other people to do their end of the project.

14. Eat more healthy.
This goes along with #6 and #7

15. Find things to be thankful for everyday.
My life is so blessed and I need to be more thankful for all the wonderful things that happen to me each and every day.

16. Start putting money into savings.
Gavin will be trying to get into pharmacy school soon and we have lots of stuff we need to pay for thats coming up in the near future.

17. Take time just for me.
Sometimes I just need some ME time to unwind and rejuninate.

18. Find others to serve.
Enough said, pretty profound.

19. Trust more, fear less.
I need to learn how to trust my Heavenly Father and not fear so much. Whether its money, or time or anything else, I know that I just have to prepare the best I can and my HF will do the rest.
